C + C and I met for a fabulous cocktail at The Kitchen Upstairs about a month before their wedding. I knew instantly that we were a good fit - she is a documentary filmmaker and he appreciates the art of storytelling as well. There wasn’t a cloud in the sky on their wedding day and I felt the anticipation - as well as the wind - it was, no joke, gusting to 30mph. I began at his cabin where he made her treasured coffee from Carrboro Coffee Roasters, the same coffee he made for her early on in their relationship. We had talked about where they wanted to hold their first look - at a spot dear to them in the flatirons. They exchanged vows outdoors, had a view of the flatirons, were warmed by the sun and surrounded by people they love. The Kitchen Upstairs was the perfect setting for their casual yet elegant lunch reception. I feel honored to have documented their love + the moments that unfolded celebrating it. C + C, I’ll photograph you anywhere, anytime.
L + D planned an epic backyard wedding at her parent's home in Cheshire, CT. Intermittent rain offered beautiful atmosphere and a much needed break from the summer heat. I adored L's T-length dress with scarlet details + shoes. L + D embraced each of their guests, sang to one another + danced barefoot for hours on wet grass to bluegrass. It was a day I'll never forget.
K + B love boating + clearly one another. This engagement session offers the perfect illustration of what I like to call myself at times - a documentary tag along. They ate ice cream, I had none. They boated, I rode. They cliff jumped, I was there to capture them. It feels so very real because it was - and we enjoyed every second of it.
HINT: that's the secret to an authentic session - make it something you love doing and be fully in the moment (oh, and bring a documentary tag along).
Cocktails + Snow
M + J met at Bread Bar in Silver Plume so it was fitting that we start our session there. It's a hidden gem I'm grateful for being introduced to. Plus, the cocktails were amazing and helped start the laughing, which I swear didn't end until sundown. There's nothing quite like snow to enhance the already stunning atmosphere of Colorado.
Love at Sunrise
C + B love one another like no other couple I've met. They exude joy from every pore + it was a genuine joy to soak all of their energy in. We decided on hanging out near her parent's home to watch the sunrise. Few are willing, but even fewer are this vibrant so early. I'll remember this session forever.
L + M were married within the Boulder Flatirons. It had just snowed a foot the day prior during a typical Colorado spring snow storm. I rode in the back of their VW van as they drove up together, barely able to contain their excitement. Their ceremony was just as they wanted - intimate, casual and surrounded by intense love. Thank you L + M / I will forever remember the beauty of your everything.
I connected with J + S instantly. I just knew I had to be there to document their day of celebration. Their wedding was held at Lone Hawk Farm - the perfect venue for their casual, nature-loving, music-filled event. I was honored to be there and even more honored to call them my dear friends.
N + R have invited their wedding guests to bring their dogs and bikes - what a spectacular way to celebrate the things you adore with those who feel the same. I cannot wait to document their day in just over a week. They are so full of love and life it's almost too easy to document them. We hiked St. Mary's Glacier for this session, and they'll be getting married in Crested Butte. It can't come soon enough!
A + S had a love that filled a room - not with noise, but with loving, calm energy. They are artists, creators and have some of most entertaining friends. I'll always remember their celebration at Spruce Mountain Ranch.
